In a tragic incident in Kalaburagi on Wednesday evening, a 14-year-old boy, Kamal Raj, died of electrocution after coming into contact with a live wire on a road divider railing near the central bus station. Kamal Raj, a resident of Basava Nagar, was crossing the road with two friends when he touched the iron railing, which had been electrified by a snapped live wire from a nearby pole. CCTV footage shows the other two boys running back while Kamal Raj remained motionless, stuck to the railing.
Following a complaint from the boy’s mother, Ashok Nagar police registered an FIR against city corporation officials and launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate incident in Kolar, a pole fitted with CCTV cameras near the clock tower started delivering electric shocks due to a malfunction caused by continuous rain. Locals alerted power utility officials, who swiftly disconnected the power supply and repaired the issue. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
These incidents highlight the grave risks posed by faulty infrastructure and negligence in addressing public safety concerns, particularly during the monsoon season. The Kalaburagi incident has sparked outrage among residents, with demands for accountability and immediate action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Authorities are under pressure to ensure that infrastructure is inspected and maintained regularly to avoid further loss of life.
