Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a significant development plan for Kalaburagi, aiming to transform it into a smart city with an investment of Rs 1,685 crore. This initiative, part of the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana 2.0, will also allocate Rs 200 crore each to Kalaburagi and Ballari for infrastructure enhancements.
The announcement was made during the ‘Kalyana Karnataka Amrut Mahotsav’ and the 10th anniversary celebration of Kalyana Karnataka’s special status under Article 371(J) of the Constitution. Siddaramaiah highlighted the historical significance of the Kalyana Karnataka region, which joined India a year after independence in 1947 due to the efforts of freedom fighters and leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Additionally, a new scheme, “Kalyana Patha,” will focus on improving road connectivity and rural development in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
