A shocking video showing laborers mishandling the body of a deceased co-worker near a cement factory in Sedam, Kalaburagi district, has sparked public outrage. Although the incident occurred on February 17, the footage surfaced only recently, reigniting criticism.
The deceased, Chandan Singh from Bihar, was employed by a contractor at the factory. He had been missing from work for a week and was known to struggle with alcoholism. He passed away in a temporary shed near the factory.
An ambulance had been arranged to transport his body, but six co-workers instead dragged it along the road before loading it onto a vehicle. Police suspect they intended to bring the body inside the factory to stage a protest. Authorities quickly intervened, dispersing the crowd and detaining the individuals involved. They were later remanded to judicial custody. Singh’s body was sent to his hometown for final rites.
Labor Minister Santosh Lad condemned the act, calling it inhumane and unacceptable. He assured strict action against those responsible and emphasized the need to uphold the dignity of the deceased. A detailed report has been sought on the incident.
