Apoorva Shetty Wins Rs 6.4 Lakh on KBC, Celebrates Tulu Culture
Apoorva Shetty, a resident of Pumpwell, Mangaluru, won Rs 6.4 lakh on the popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. The episode, aired on September 27, saw Apoorva correctly answering the first 10 questions. She used the ‘phone a friend’ lifeline during the 11th question, speaking to her uncle in Tulu—a moment that was widely appreciated by the Tulu-speaking community.
The 11th question, “Which country has the highest area of mangrove forest?” had options: Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. Her uncle suggested Nigeria, but feeling uncertain, Apoorva decided to quit, walking away with Rs 6.4 lakh.
A touching moment occurred when Apoorva shared that her father is a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan. The host made a video call to her father, Lokesh, allowing him to speak in Tulu. Overcome with emotion, Lokesh shed tears of joy, and Amitabh, moved by the scene, offered Apoorva a napkin to wipe her own tears.
