Society has to stop belittling teaching profession: Ashwini KR

Dubai: The 14th episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Saturday December 4 at 6.30 pm IST.

The series that showcases teachers and the impact they have had on students through teacher-student interaction was broadcast live on YouTube at youtube.com/newskarnataka. The event host was Spearhead Media Group Mentor and Advisor CA Valerian Dalmaida, and the co-host was Kiran Nirkan.

In the beginning Co-host Kiran Nirkan introduced teacher Ashwini K. R. and her students.

The guest teacher of the event was Ashwini K. R., Physical Education Teacher from fourth Ward Government Higher Primary School, Kampli, Ballari. Her students, Bheemraj, Shwetha,1st year BSc graduate, C. Vijayalaxmi B. PEd student, Kanchi Mallappa serving at Polytechnic College, Ballari, Rajashekhar, Sangeetha graduation students and Santhoshamma, final year BA student were the special guests.

Teacher Ashwini K.R recalling her experience said, Post appointment at Government Higher Primary School Kampli, I wanted to bring in discipline among students. As it was a slum area school, it was quite difficult to get students on track.

She said that I had to use stick in order to make them obedient and in this journey rift between parents of the students and myself was common. The day I realised stick along with love and affection can bring the child closer, I opted the path and it was a successful one.

Valerian Dalmaida congratulated the teacher for being recognised as the favourite teacher of the year. And Co host Kiran Kirkan, regarded her as a ‘Rebel teacher for rebel students’ and praised her efforts.

Student, Sangeetha putforth her experience with teacher Ashwini K. R. and said I am pursuing my graduation now and it has been years post schooling at Kampli but even to date ma’am is guiding our academics. Her life lessons have moulded our personality.”

Kanchi Mallappa said, I was weak in maths but because of ma’am i could clear my seventh class examination with first class marks. I also got an opportunity to go on a trip for being a meritious student. It was all because of Ashwini ma’am, he expressed.

C. Vijayalaxmi recalled her school days and said, Today, when I take up tuition classes or when I read I understand why ma’am used to hit us during school days. I am a district-level Kabaddi player now and it is all thanks to ma’am, who taught us. She personally got into the ground and taught us guiding every step of the way.

Bheemraj regared Ashwini ma’am as his second mother and said, I have reached to the state-level in kabbadi, and it is all because of ma’am. Also, when my parents decided to stop my education midway , it was Ashwini ma’am who shouldered my educational cost, he added.

Rajashekhar reminisced, Teacher used to fetch the first aid box from government hospital as a precautionary measure before any sporting events. I recall an incident when she fell down on the ground teaching us. She always meant well for us and I am proud of being called her student.

Shwetha said, teacher has taught us like her own kids. I have been studying in hostel now and there lies lots of efforts by Ashwini teacher in availing me this facility.

Teacher Ashwini K. R. expressed to see her students coronating higher posts. She added, it is the teacher who is instrumental in contributing to the society immensely, and should be regarded more than a doctor or engineer. society has to stop belittling teaching profession, she averred.

Both students and teacher recalled their school life and became excited. Students reminded their teacher the mischievous things they did during their school days.
