The event host was Kiran Nirkan.

Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

In the beginning of the programme Kiran Nirkan introduced the guests and welcomed him.

“Every day in my 32 years of career, I witnessed the happiest moments. I have no greatest contribution towards literature the way people have credited me but I admire literature and so I am a literature teacher,” said Dr. Vincent Alva.

Roshani Poojary said, “Sir would emphasise study and also would recognise talent. He had solution to all our problems.”

Sakshi Mallya said, “Sir would narrate to the class through a story and so we never felt English to be a difficult subject. Sir would hand over me a novel or an autobiography to read and the same fuelled my reading habit,” she expressed.

Mahesh Kumar said, “Supporting a student, finding the talent within students and encouraging them were miracles he performed. The support by the teachers like him was wonderful,” he expressed.

“Having English class in between the hectic Science classes were a relaxation for us. I always see him as a role model and he is an inspiration for me to take up teaching as a career,” said Dr. Francisca Tej.

Raghuveer Shenoy said, “For years together I have written parliamentary speeches, and have also made drafts for private member bills. I am overwhelmed to state that Vincent Alva sir is the reason behind my career success.”

“Being a Kannada medium student English was like a an iron ball to us, difficult to chew. We student would wait for a chance to run away from the class if any faculty were absent. But if Vincent sir was absent then all the student would turn unhappy. So was Sir’s class to us students,” said Sarita Carmelita D’Souza.

Expressing the role of teachers in moulding a future generation the guests said, “The influence of a teacher will indeed be reflected in the personality of a student. Bringing out the talent within students and moulding our weakness into strength is the capability a teacher possess. With a vision in the forefront and a teacher behind, a student will surely see success.”

Both teachers and students appreciated the initiative of NewsKarnataka in recognising the teachers and the student – teacher bond. Wishing good luck Kiran Nirkan signed off the session.
