A social media post by a man from Karnataka has reignited the ongoing debate of “Kannadiga vs Outsiders” after he urged employers in the state to prioritize hiring locals over individuals from other regions.
The post, shared on X, asked Kannadigas—those who speak Kannada natively and are from Karnataka—to give preference to local talent when hiring employees. The individual emphasized that while Kannadigas possess skills and abilities, the lack of a supportive ecosystem has hindered their growth. He encouraged those in hiring positions to “be ruthless” and employ locals to combat the ongoing struggle for jobs in their own city.
However, the post faced significant criticism. Many users called out the message for promoting workplace discrimination based on regional identity. One user pointed out that businesses thrive on skills and talent, and such regional biases could harm a company’s survival. Another person questioned whether this would lead to regionalized platforms like a Kannada-only LinkedIn, while others warned against prioritizing region over ability in professional settings.
Several counterarguments suggested that success in the workplace depends on merit, not regional affiliation. Users advised focusing on talent, as it drives both individual and organizational growth. They cautioned that when regionalism overtakes skill-based hiring, it can lead to organizational failure.
