Doha: As part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations, Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) observed World Environment Day 2025 with a vibrant series of activities aimed at fostering environmental responsibility across generations. The week-long programme combined art, awareness, and action, culminating in a resounding message: preserve and protect Mother Earth.
A week of creativity and consciousness
The events kicked off on 30 May at Vibrant Safety Academy, where Drawing, Colouring, and Elocution competitions were held, drawing enthusiastic participation from various age groups. The following day saw the online prelims of a quiz competition, alongside an innovative One-Minute Video Awareness Campaign for children under 12. These video entries, evaluated for originality and impact, earned special praise for their clarity and emotional appeal.
Planting hope: Saplings for a sustainable future
In a symbolic gesture befitting its 25-year milestone, KSQ donated 25 saplings to Delhi Public School. Students, along with Principal Mrs Asna Nafees, Facilities Manager Mr Shashi Shekar Patra, and KSQ office bearers, planted the saplings on school grounds, fostering hands-on ecological responsibility.
On June 5, the planting drive continued at Pearling International School, further reinforcing KSQ’s commitment to a greener future.
Quiz finals and a call to action
The final round of the Environmental Quiz for 18+ participants was held the same day, conducted by KSQ’s dynamic member Kishore, who kept participants engaged with his energetic style.
KSQ President Ravi Shetty, in his welcome address, lauded the creativity shown by the youth and thanked volunteers and MC members for their tireless effort. He appealed to the community to become “part of the solution, not the pollution.”
Inspiring speeches and poetic reflections
Chief Guest Mr Thaha Muhammed Abdul Kareem, President of IBPC, delivered a stirring speech that underlined the role of individuals in environmental protection. His original poem, Seeds of Change, left a lasting impression:
“Together we triumph, with hope as our guide,
For Mother Earth’s future, with nothing to hide.”
Guest of Honour Mr Diwakar Poojary, former General Secretary of ICC, ICBF & IBPC, congratulated KSQ and nostalgically recalled his tenure, during which KSQ emerged as a strong force in previous environmental campaigns.
Strong community support
The day’s proceedings were smoothly anchored by Mr Shashidhar HB, KSQ’s Logistics & Environment Secretary, and supported by General Secretary Mr Kumar Swamy, Mrs Bhuvana Suraj, and other KSQ MC members. Mrs Suraj, in her Vote of Thanks, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and contributors.
Special appreciation was extended to plant sponsors: ATS, Mrs Jayavani, Mr Santhosh Pillai (Vibrant), and Mr Pranav (PSA), whose generosity made the planting drives possible.
Judges Mrs Bharthi, Mrs Sushma Harish, Mr Arun Kumar, and Mr Madhu HK ensured fair evaluation across competitions, while a diverse array of dignitaries including Mr Asmath Ali, Mr Sandeep Reddy, Mr Subramanya Hebbagelu, and several community leaders lent their presence to the event.
