Mangaluru, July 4, 2024: Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur announced that the state government has approved the proposal to name the road from near Circuit House to Bejai Circle after former Defence Minister George Fernandes.
The official naming ceremony will take place near Bejai Circle on July 6 at 4 pm. The event will be attended by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, DK District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao, and MP Brijesh Chowta. Bejai Church Parish Priest Rev. Fr. J. B. Saldanha will bless the occasion.
Several notable figures, including George Fernandes’ brother Michael Fernandes, MLCs Manjunath Bhandari, Ivan D’Souza, S. L. Bhojegowda, and Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty, will also participate in the ceremony.
Mayor Sudhir Shetty highlighted the significance of honoring George Fernandes, a distinguished leader and son of the soil, by naming the road after him. The renaming is a tribute to Fernandes’ contributions to the nation and his strong connection to the region.
