‘No low-income strata referred in Budget’

Dubai: The 14th episode of talk show Subalterns by Village TV Trust, Mangaluru and Loyola Degree College, Bengaluru titled ‘Budget 2022 – What is there for common man’ was aired on Friday February 11 at 6.30 pm IST.

Head of the Department of Kannada at Loyola College Bengaluru Dr. Kumaraswamy Bijjihalli and Head of the Department of Commerce at Loyola College Bengaluru, Dr. Rajesh and Principal Francis D’Almeida were the special guests for the evening.

The event host was Spearhead Media Group Mentor and Advisor CA Valerian Dalmaida, and the co-host Kiran Nirkan. The weekly programme is aired in Kannada.

The goal of ‘P2P – Local to Global’ is to provide a platform for unheard young voices in society and thereby create a supportive environment.

Valerian Dalmaida desribed what is Budget and summarised the Budget 2022.

Answering co-host Floyd about the advantages the Budget may have on Street Vendors and Labourers Dr. Rajesh said, the current Budget Speech was of short span. In general, railway Budget happens separate but this time it was a compiled budget and had no mention on autodrivers or daily wage wokers.

On farmers’ plight being considered in the Budget Kumaraswamy Bijjihalli said, Indeed post farmers’ protest, there was an expectation from the budget on farmers’ side. But no significant changes have been brought through the Budget. He also criticised the fancy name game approach of the government in order to manipulate comman man.

Fr. Francis D’Almeida expressed concern stating, in spite of new system of education like NEP there is no provision made for the better implementation of the same in the budget.

The session continued with the analysis of Budget and discussion about the impact of it on economically-streamlined section of the society.

Valerian said, When a lower class and middle class are not catered then cent percent the Budget focuses on the corporate sector development. He also highlighted stating, No House, Company, Institution or Nation will see development without statistical records.

Floyd Kiran concluded the session expressing gratitude to all the guests for being a part of crtical analyais of the Buget. And advised the citizens to be wise in chosing their representatives.
