Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the Union Ministry of AYUSH is organising the 10th World Ayurveda Congress and Health Conference, along with an exhibition, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Speaking at the inauguration of a satellite seminar organised by the Ayurveda Seva Samiti’s Ayurveda College and Hospital at the KLE Tech Auditorium in Hubballi on Sunday, Joshi revealed that the conference will feature participation from 5,000 Ayurveda experts across 50 countries.
As part of the congress, 20 satellite-based seminars are being conducted nationwide. Joshi emphasised that Ayurveda is India’s most ancient cultural and medicinal system, which the government is actively promoting and preserving through the AYUSH Ministry. He noted that the ministry has been raising awareness about Ayurveda on both national and international platforms.
The minister highlighted the significant growth in the Ayurvedic sector, stating that the Ayurvedic medicine market has expanded from ₹24,000 crore in 2014 to over ₹1.40 lakh crore today. Additionally, he mentioned that the budget allocation for Ayurveda has increased from ₹500 crore to ₹3,000 crore.
Govind Joshi, President of the Hubballi Ayurveda Seva Samiti, noted the immense global demand for Ayurvedic products and stressed the need for further promotion of Ayurveda.
Minister Joshi expressed confidence in India regaining its status as a “Vishwaguru” (world leader). He stated that the government is committed to building a strong nation and highlighted that Indian-made products adhering to quality and hygiene standards are seeing increasing global demand. He suggested that a time should come when students choose BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) over MBBS out of preference, rather than as a fallback option.
The minister further added that Indian products are attracting foreign customers and that business is conducted based on trust and confidence. He concluded by stating that India will soon join the ranks of powerful nations.
The event was attended by various officials, including Sanjeev Joshi, Secretary of the Ayurveda Seva Samiti; Dr. A.S. Prashant, Principal of the Ayurveda College; Dr. J.R. Joshi; and Dr. Pramod Katti, along with other staff members.
