Bagalkote: A protest led by the Brahmin Youth Association took place on Friday, condemning Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad’s recent statements regarding Udupi Pejawar Mutt’s Vishwaprasanna Thirtha Swamiji.

Members of the Brahmin community gathered outside the District Administration Building, voicing their anger through slogans demanding that Hariprasad apologise for his comments. The protest highlighted the need for sensitivity when discussing revered figures.

Brahmin Youth Association President Narayan Desai stated, “The community will not tolerate derogatory remarks against the Trimath Swamijis and leaders of the Brahmin community.”

Prominent members, including Pandit Raghottamacharya Nagasampage and Pandit Bhimasenacharya Pandurangi, emphasised that Pejawar Swamiji has fostered strong relationships across communities and has worked for the upliftment of the poor and dalits. They urged politicians to be mindful in their statements about respected personalities.

Dr. Girish Masurkar, State Vice President of the Akhila Karnataka Brahmin Mahasabha, asserted that derogatory comments would not be tolerated. “We will respond when the time comes,” he added, underscoring the community’s resolve to protect its dignity.

The protest saw participation from various local leaders and community members, including Mahasabha District President Narasimha Alur and Secretary S.K. Kulkarni, reflecting widespread support within the Brahmin community.
