A shocking act of violence unfolded in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district after a petty dispute over a cricket ball escalated into a brutal attack on a private school teacher. The incident occurred on May 13 in Savalagi village.
Ramu Poojary, a 36-year-old primary teacher at the BLDI Institution, suffered serious injuries to his face, neck, and shoulder after being assaulted with a punch weapon — metal finger rings — by a local youth, Pawan Jadhav.
The conflict reportedly began two days earlier when a cricket ball entered Poojary’s premises. When Jadhav came to retrieve it, Poojary is said to have responded that he would return it via a family member but did not do so immediately. This delay infuriated Jadhav, who allegedly issued threats, warning, “I’ll drink your blood.”
On May 13 around 2:30 p.m., Jadhav entered the school office under the guise of making peace, but instead verbally abused the teacher and launched a sudden assault, striking him near the right eye and forehead, causing heavy bleeding. The attack, caught on CCTV, has stunned the local community.
Bystanders rushed the injured teacher to the hospital. The Savalagi police have since arrested Jadhav and charged him with attempted murder.
The incident has sparked widespread concern about rising aggression among youth and the vulnerability of educators even within school premises.
