Bagalkote: Paramahansa Paramarudha Swamiji of the Ramarudha Math near Gaddanakeri village in the taluk has stated that he was compelled to pay money after receiving death threats.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Swamiji recounted emotionally, “A person named Prakash called, impersonating a DYSP and ADGP, claiming there was a non-bailable warrant against me. He threatened to kill me by evening if I didn’t pay the money. Fearing for my life, I gave them the money.”
The Swamiji explained that when he asked his devotees for financial assistance, they brought it to the math. He questioned, “Would devotees give money if I had committed a crime? I haven’t done anything wrong. If they can prove I’ve committed any offence, I am ready to face punishment. Devotees need not be disheartened.”
According to reports, the Swamiji paid ₹1 crore to the accused, who had threatened him in the name of the police. A case has been registered at the CEN (Cyber Economics and Narcotics) police station in connection with this incident.
The Swamiji emphasised his innocence and highlighted the unwavering support of his devotees throughout the ordeal. He urged his followers not to lose heart over the situation.
Authorities are currently investigating the case, focusing on the individuals who impersonated police officers to extort money from the religious leader.
