Political turmoil in Bangladesh has significantly benefitted the jeans manufacturing industry in Ballari, Karnataka. Once heavily reliant on Bangladeshi exports, India’s top jeans brands are now turning to Ballari, known as the “jeans capital of India,” to meet their demands.

The disruption in Bangladesh’s jeans export sector has led to a 30% surge in business for Ballari’s over 500 units. Monthly profits per unit have risen by ₹5–10 lakh, with some units receiving orders worth ₹35 lakh. Traditionally catering to traders in Mumbai and Surat, Ballari’s products are now attracting interest from international brands.

Pollux Mallikarjun, owner of Pollux Jeans and a member of the Ballari Jeans Industry Welfare Association, highlighted the global recognition the local industry has gained due to the crisis. “The demand for our products has skyrocketed, prompting us to expand our workforce to meet bulk orders,” he said.

This shift underscores Ballari’s growing prominence in the global denim market and its ability to adapt to international market dynamics.
