Ballari: A shocking incident was reported from a residential school hostel where a Class 9 student allegedly attacked fellow students while they were asleep, leaving one student dead and several others injured.
According to police, the incident occurred late on Saturday night at a Gurukul residential school hostel. After dinner, the accused student reportedly picked up an iron bed rod and began assaulting other students inside the hostel dormitory.
Officials said the boy attacked anyone he could find while the students were asleep, leading to panic and chaos inside the hostel premises.
One student killed, several injured
Police said eight students were assaulted in the attack. One of them succumbed to his injuries, while two others were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at the Ballari Medical College and Research Centre (BMCRC) hospital.
The remaining injured students sustained minor injuries and were provided medical attention.
The hostel warden, identified as Blessy, also sustained injuries while attempting to intervene during the attack.
Authorities said the condition of the two critically injured students is being closely monitored by doctors.
Accused student fled after attack
Following the assault, the accused student fled the hostel premises. Police have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend him.
Investigators are currently examining the circumstances that led to the violent incident. Officials said the motive behind the attack is yet to be determined.
Police have begun questioning staff members and students to gather more information about the events leading up to the assault.
A statement has also been recorded from the hostel warden who was injured during the incident.
Family questions hostel security
The father of the deceased student, Lakshmikant, has raised concerns over the safety and security arrangements at the residential school.
He questioned how such a violent incident could occur inside a hostel that is expected to be closely monitored by staff and security personnel.
According to him, his son had been attacked with a knife and the assault appeared to be intentional. However, the school management stated that the weapon used in the attack was an iron rod taken from a bed.
“How could a minor carry out such a brutal assault inside a monitored hostel premises?” the victim’s father reportedly asked while demanding accountability from the school administration.
Police investigation underway
Police said they are investigating all aspects of the case, including the sequence of events, the weapon used and possible reasons behind the attack.
Authorities are also examining whether there were any earlier disputes or behavioural issues involving the accused student.
Further action will be taken once the suspect is apprehended and questioned.
The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety and supervision in residential educational institutions, prompting calls for stricter monitoring and security measures in hostels.
