Harsha Murder Accused Cause Chaos in Ballari Jail, Demand VIP Treatment
Ballari: Two of the ten undertrials in the high-profile murder case of Hindu activist Harsha are reportedly causing persistent trouble inside Ballari Central Jail. Identified as Jeelan and Syed Nihal, the duo has been demanding special treatment and disrupting daily jail routines.
Previously housed in prisons in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, and Dharwad, the accused were moved to Ballari jail about a month ago following repeated misconduct. However, jail sources report that their unruly behaviour has continued unabated.
The two have allegedly acquired old videos of past jail incidents and are now using them to intimidate prison staff, threatening to leak the footage on social media. Their list of demands includes exclusive cells, exemption from security frisking, and preferential access to the jailer’s office without standard checks.
In addition to their threats, Jeelan and Nihal have been frequently quarrelling with prison staff over minor issues and allegedly hurling verbal abuse. Their consistent indiscipline in previous jails was reportedly the reason for their repeated transfers.
Authorities are said to be taking a serious view of their behaviour, which poses a challenge to jail administration and discipline in a high-security environment.
