Bellary: The Tungabhadra dam is rapidly approaching its full capacity, with only 1.94 feet remaining to be filled. As of Monday morning, the water level reached 1,631.06 feet, holding 98.10 TMC feet of water. The dam’s maximum capacity is 1,633 feet.

The average inflow into the reservoir is 26,272 cusecs, while the outflow is 15,237 cusecs. To reach its total storage capacity of 105.78 TMC feet, an additional 7 TMC feet of water is needed.

The Tungabhadra board has cautioned that if the inflow surpasses 40,000 cusecs, it may be necessary to open the crustgate and release water into the river. Residents living along the riverbanks have been advised to exercise caution.

For the past two days, the crustgate has remained closed, with 5,000 cusecs of water being released into the river through hydropower generation. However, with an anticipated increase in water inflow, the opening of the crustgate may soon be inevitable.
