The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has formed a five-member committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the payment of a ₹500 crore bill for works carried out in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath announced the formation of the committee on Wednesday, stating, “Complaints were received about potential illegalities in the release of bills for works in Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency from September 18, 2020, to July 19, 2022. This committee has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.”

The investigation aims to determine whether there were any irregularities in the release of funds for works that may already be under scrutiny. This comes amid ongoing investigations into various work-related issues within the BBMP. Girinath added, “Many investigations are already ongoing regarding the workers. An investigation is being conducted to find out whether the release of funds for the same works is illegal.”

The newly formed committee comprises the Special Commissioner of Revenue, Munish Moudgil; the Special Commissioner of Planning and Finance; the Chief Engineer of Quality Assurance and Quality Control; and the TVCC Chief Engineer, who will serve as Member Secretary. The committee is expected to conduct a comprehensive review of the payments and work executed during the specified period in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency.

This development underscores the BBMP’s commitment to addressing concerns about financial irregularities and ensuring transparency in its operations. The findings of this investigation could have significant implications for the management of contracts and payments within the municipal corporation.
