Belagavi: Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in Belagavi turned violent after an MES activist allegedly stabbed a Kannadiga. Enraged mob assaulted the MES activist for attacking Soukesh Jain a Kannada activist who was partaking in the celebrations.
The incident occured during Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at Chennamma circle in the city.
Earlier, CM Siddaramaiah presided over the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at the Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru. Celebrating the 60th Kannada Rajyotsava with patriotic fervor today, Siddaramaiah hoisted the tricolor and inspected the guard of honour. Education minister Kimmane Rathnakar hoisted the Kannada flag.
Hundreds of students performed cultural programmes on the occasion.
CM reiterates beef remark
Reiterating his earlier remark on beef consumption, CM speaking to reporters said, “Every individual has the right to consume food of her or his choice. Even I will consume beef, if I want to. It is an individual choice. Nobody should try to control food habits of others”, he said.
Shivraj Tangadagi, Minor irrigation minister, taking a stand on the ongoing beef row, said, “I also consume beef, it is an individual choice. Hence nobody should question the food habits of others. BJP is playing politics with beef consumption.”
“Beef will not be banned in Karnataka. Imposing one’s food habits on others is despotism”, said Social Welfare minister H Anjaneya, here on Sunday.
