Bagalakote: Bagalakote District managed to make it to the top 10 in the State in the PUC II examination. The District, which was ranked 7th in the State in 2020, has been ranked 10th this year. Compared to last year’s position, there has been a decline.

Last year, all those who had written the PUC II and SSLC exams were passed due to Covid. There was an atmosphere of excitement among the students. In 2022, the overall passing percentage in PUC II of the District is 68.67 per cent. As many as 21,879 students who appeared for the exam, 15,029 have passed.

In the current examination, 15029 out of 21879 new students, 547 out of 1973 repeaters and 203 out of 800 private students have passed.

In Arts stream, out of 10,212 students, 6043 triumphed with a pass percentage of 59.18 per cent. In Commerce stream, 3869 out of 5,130 students and 5,117 out of 6,537 students in Science stream have cleared the exam with a pass percentage of 78.28 per cent.

Bagalakote District slipping from the top ten position in 2018, had raised questions on the quality education here. Taking up this as a challenge, the Department of Pre-University Education had introduced new steps aimed at securing the top ten position. As a result, it had secured the seventh position in 2019 and 2020 and recorded a good result. Ranking has also seen a significant drop on an average, which now has got in a need for introspection.

The exam was not held last year during the Covid crisis. Pandemic had made the students withdraw from studies. The education system itself faced many tough challenges. However, the Department worked hard to achieve excellence in the subject by conducting a series of examinations for the students, training of the lecturers by resource persons and special workshops and meetings with the Principals from time to time.

Eventhough the District has secured 10th place, the overall result has not been upto the mark. The Department is now aiming to make it to the top 5 next year.

The result is satisfactory in this difficult situation. But there is a pain that we have not been able to reach our goal. Due to Covid, there the students faced many difficulties as far as studies were concerned. This has led to the decline in the position. For the academic year, we will begin preparing now onwards and work hard to get the district within top 5.”
