Four individuals from Belagavi—two women and two young girls—sustained minor injuries amid a stampede on their way to the sacred Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

Among those affected were BJP members Sarojini Naduvinhalli and Kanchan Ghorpade, both residents of Vadgaon, alongside two girls, Megha and Jyoti. Fortunately, they received medical attention at a healthcare facility within the Mahakumbh premises and are now in stable condition.

The group had embarked on their spiritual journey from Belagavi three days prior, arriving at Prayagraj on Tuesday evening. They had intended to take part in the ceremonial dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers.

Meanwhile, Shivaraj Mahilande from Ghataprabha in Gokak confirmed his safety and successfully participated in the pre-dawn bathing ritual at Triveni Sangam.

Several pilgrims from Belagavi have been making their way to Prayagraj over the past week, traveling in different batches. While some have opted for trains and flights, others are undertaking the journey via mini-buses and private vehicles.

The Mahakumbh, a revered spiritual gathering, continues to attract vast crowds despite challenges posed by overwhelming footfall. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure the safety of all attendees.
