The Uttar Pradesh government has disbursed an ex-gratia amount of ₹25 lakh each to the families of four individuals from Belagavi who lost their lives in the tragic stampede during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj this January.

A total of ₹1 crore was transferred to the victims’ families via RTGS. The fatal incident took place on Mouni Amavasya during the sacred Shah Snan. The deceased include a mother-daughter pair, Jyothi Hattaravath and Megha Hattaravath, along with Arun Koparde and Mahadevi Bavanur.

Forty days after announcing the compensation, the UP government has completed the payment process. Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan confirmed the relief and stated that a proposal has also been sent to the Karnataka government to extend financial aid to the bereaved families.

Administrative Efforts & Further Actions

DC Roshan explained that officials worked closely with Prayagraj authorities to ensure swift repatriation of the bodies. The district administration coordinated with the Prayagraj DC to finalize compensation procedures and facilitate fund transfers.

However, minor errors were detected in the victims’ death certificates. Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravi Mander has assured corrections within two days. Post-mortem reports confirmed that the deaths resulted from trauma caused by the stampede.
