Belagavi is bustling with excitement as the city prepares to bid farewell to 2024 and usher in 2025. Star hotels and resorts are hosting a variety of festive events, and the streets are adorned with old man effigies to be burned, especially in the Camp area. Replicas of old men are being crafted throughout the city as part of the celebration, reflecting the city’s festive spirit. With anticipation building, Belagavi is ready to celebrate the New Year with zeal.
While some argue that New Year’s celebrations are a Western tradition, others believe that, in modern times, there is ample reason to embrace these festivities. Traditionalists may celebrate the New Year in different ways, but youngsters are eager for the excitement that December 31 brings. While many senior citizens will enjoy quiet family gatherings at home, the younger crowd is heading to popular tourist destinations, with many already booking stays in nearby states like Goa and Maharashtra. Hotels and restaurants are already packed, with 80% of rooms booked, and party registrations filling up quickly.
To ensure safety, the city’s police department is well-prepared, with precautionary measures in place to prevent any untoward incidents. Iada Martin Marbaniang, City Police Commissioner, stated that necessary arrangements have been made, and Amarnath Reddy, Superintendent of Police, emphasized that strict actions will be taken against offenders, including drunk driving and illegal bike riding. Checkposts have been set up at tourist spots, and over 1,000 staff members, including 5 KSRPs, have been deployed throughout the district to ensure smooth celebrations.
