Belagavi: Water Resources Minister Govind Karajol has said that officials will be instructed to take up the remaining repair works, including electricity lines, in hostels and residential schools coming under the purview of the Social Welfare Department.
Congress MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, during the Zero Hour in the Assembly, said that a seven-year-old boy of Morarji Desai Residential School in Mahadevanagar died after coming in contact with an electric wire from the drinking water unit of the same school. The disaster was due to the negligence of the authorities. He demanded compensation for the family of the deceased boy.
To this, the Minister replied that the issue raised by Yathindra has come to the notice of the Government. The officer concerned has been suspended. The family of the deceased boy will be given compensation by the Social Welfare Department. He also said that officials will be instructed to carry out the remaining repairs, including the electricity system in hostels and residential schools under the Social Welfare Department in the entire State.
