The Belagavi police department conducted the ‘Run for Peace’ marathon on Sunday, drawing an overwhelming response from citizens. This event, designed to foster harmony, well-being, and solidarity, witnessed participation from over 6,000 individuals, including government employees, students, educators, sports enthusiasts, medical professionals, and law enforcement personnel.
The marathon featured 5km and 15km races, kicking off from the CPEd ground. Participants, not just from Karnataka but also from other states and even overseas, actively engaged in the spirited run. The event was held under the banner ‘Our Police, Our Pride’, celebrating the force’s commitment to public service.
In the 10km men’s race, Aniket Shingare clinched first place, followed by Sunil D and Chetan Kashyap. The women’s 10km race saw Vaishnavi Rawal securing victory, with Akshata Mazukar and Naksha Mangakar claiming second and third positions, respectively.
For the 5km men’s event, Tejas Nemade emerged as the winner, trailed by Bhushan Kadam and Ganesh Hiroji. In the women’s category, Apoorva Nayak took first place, while Srushti Juvekar and Anagha Shanabhaga finished second and third.
In the police-exclusive 10km run, Mahantesh Dammanavar won, with Dhariappa Badanur and Sangappa Goravara securing podium finishes. The 5km police race winners included Shivanand Rathod, Laxman Ullegaddi, and Ramesh Mabanur.
IGP Chetan Singh Rathod emphasized that the marathon aimed to highlight the police’s public-friendly approach and promote fitness. Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang reaffirmed their commitment to a drug-free Karnataka.
