Belagavi: The District is organising a grand ‘Kittur Utsav’ which will be celebrated for the first time at the state level on October 24. Several events, including a women’s festival, sports, seminars, poetry, etc. are scheduled for the historic Kittur Town and fort.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Kittur MLA Mahantesh Doddagouda said, “This is the first time a women’s festival has been organised at the state-level Kittur festival. The writers will give talks on notable women from Kittur at a seminar on ‘Queens of Kittur’ that will be held in the morning.
Dr. Maitreyini Gadigeppagoudar, a writer, will speak on Rani Channamma, Sunanda Emmi will speak on Rani Rudramma, Tara B. N. will speak about Rani Veeramma and Jayashree Abbigeri will speak about Rani Mallamma and Rani Janakibai. A seminar will be also organised to discuss the dimensions of women’s empowerment. A conference on women’s poetry will follow talks by Professor B. K. Tulsimala, B. V. Geetha, Yashoda Vantagodi, Danamma Jhalaki, and Lokayukta SP Yashoda Vantagodi on various topics, he added.
A musical and dance event will be held later in the afternoon and into the evening, featuring Vaishali M. Alagundi, Soumya Pattar, Radhabai Madar, and Saubhagyalakshmi Koppad, etc.
