Belagavi: Environment Minister Anand Singh has said that a separate law will soon be enacted in the State regarding battery waste disposal with a view to the future.
During question hour in the Council on Monday December 26, replying to a question jointly raised by JD (S)’ K. A. Thippeswamy and BJP’s D. S. Arun, he said that the use of electric vehicles is on the rise in recent times. In the future, batteries are likely to cause another kind of problem. In this context, a separate law will be brought for the disposal of battery waste, he said.
According to data provided by the Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State currently generates 43 to 42 lakh tonnes of solid waste annually. On an average, 50,000 tonnes of e-waste generated by the processing and recycling units as per the information provided to the State Pollution Control Board.
