Belagavi to transform into a major tourist hub with new projects
The government is set to elevate Belagavi district into a prominent tourist destination with exciting new developments. The region, long underappreciated for its tourism potential, will now see two new ropeway projects and the launch of a wildlife safari in Khanapur forest.
Tourism Minister HK Patil confirmed that two ropeway projects have been approved for the district. One will connect the Renuka Yallamma Temple in Savadatti with the nearby Jogulabhavi, spanning 4.6 km, while the second will offer breathtaking views over the Gokak waterfalls. The Savadatti ropeway will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Additionally, a proposal for a ropeway project at Rajahansgad Fort has been revived, although it was initially stalled during the previous government.
In another step to boost tourism, the government has also greenlit an 18 km wildlife safari in the Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, located within the Khanapur forest. The sanctuary, home to rich biodiversity and wildlife, including tigers, will now be accessible to nature and adventure enthusiasts.
The region also boasts eight trekking routes in Khanapur taluk, which can be explored by booking through the forest department’s website, with guided tours available. Discussions are underway to allow tourists to visit the district’s picturesque waterfalls, such as Vajrapoha and Chikhale, during the rainy season, with enhanced security measures.
These initiatives mark a significant transformation for Belagavi as a tourism hotspot.
