Belagavi: In a shocking incident, a train attendant was stabbed to death by an unidentified passenger onboard the Puducherry-Dadar Express on Thursday evening.
The deceased, identified as Devarshi Verma, was an On Board Housekeeping staff member and the incident happened in sleeper class coach S8. According to reports, Verma was stabbed in the chest around 5 PM between the Gunji-Khanapur section of the route.
The assailant is still at large, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Another railway staff member, Ashraf Kittur, who was working as the Train Ticket Examiner on duty, and a passenger also sustained injuries during the incident.
“Upon arrival at Belagavi station, medical attention was immediately provided to the injured passengers,” informed a railway spokesperson. “The body of Verma has been taken to the hospital for further procedures,” the official sources said.
South Western Railway are in the process of lodging a FIR in connection with the case.
