Belagavi: The body of Santosh Dundappa Padmannavar, a 47-year-old businessman who allegedly died from a heart attack on October 9, was exhumed on Wednesday for a post-mortem examination. This action follows a complaint from his daughter, Sanjana Padmannavar, who expressed suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The exhumation was conducted in the presence of Assistant Commissioner Sharavan Kumar, police officers, and a forensic science lab (FSL) team. After Santosh’s death, his last rites were performed at the Sadashivanagar burial grounds, during which his eyes were donated.

Sanjana, an engineering student from Bengaluru, returned home to investigate CCTV footage from the family’s house, only to find that approximately an hour’s worth of footage had been deleted. She alleged that her mother, Uma, had deleted the footage, and she subsequently filed a complaint naming her mother, two domestic workers, and two unidentified individuals seen exiting the house in the footage.

Speaking to the media, Sanjana expressed her concerns, stating, “By the time I returned from my bath, the footage had been deleted, which made me suspicious.” She also noted that her two younger brothers were locked in a room during the incident.

The police have registered a murder case based on Sanjana’s complaint, with Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang confirming the investigation. Meanwhile, family members, including Santosh’s elder brother, Raju Padmannavar, have accused Uma of being involved in a conspiracy with a man she allegedly met on Instagram. Raju suspects that the pair may have caused Santosh’s death through electric shocks and suffocation, demanding strict action against those responsible.
