A central team of four officials, led by Project Director Naeem Kiruwala, arrived in Belagavi to inspect five proposed sites for the Smart City 2 scheme. Initially scheduled for a two-day visit, the team completed their inspection in a single day. On Friday morning, they will visit the command and control center of the Smart City scheme for a final meeting.
The team evaluated whether the required space and basic facilities were available at each site and were reportedly satisfied with what they observed.
Solid Waste Treatment Plant at Turmuri: The team inspected the solid waste treatment plant, receiving detailed information about the project and expressing satisfaction.
Site for Debris Dumping: A designated site at Alataga for dumping the city’s debris was also inspected.
Flower Market Project: The team visited the flower market, where the Municipal Corporation has initiated a project to make incense sticks from flowers. This project was also inspected.
Waste Sorting Center at Khasbagh: The team visited the waste sorting center at the night shelter in Khasbagh and were informed about the classification of waste into five categories.
Indira Canteen at Azamnagar: Lastly, the team inspected the Indira Canteen at Azamnagar, where leftover food is used to produce biogas. Information about this project was also provided to the team.
Following the submission of the inspection report, a fund of ₹135 crores will be disbursed for the scheme.
