Chikkamagaluru DySP accused of abduction ends life

Belagavi: Deputy Superintendent of Police of Chikkamagaluru, Kallappa Handibhag who had gone missing after reports of his involvement in an abduction case surfaced on Monday, has reportedly committed suicide.

DySP Kallapa’s phone conversation with Tejas Gowda’s friend Pawan went viral on Monday. The victim Tejas Gowda had filed a complaint against DySP Kallappa at Basvanahalli police station.

DySP Kallappa was accused of masterminding the abduction of Tejas Gowda and receiving Rs 10 lakh to free him.

Sources said DySP Kallappa attemped suicide at his wife’s maternal home at Muragoda in Belagavi. It is said that he hanged himself to death. He had married and has a toddler.

It may be recalled that a gang of 23 gamblers were gambling at a den in Chikkakolale village here in June when PSI raided and arrested 23 persons. One of the 23 persons arrested was Tejas Gowda who later got bail. He was later kidnapped by a gang, taken to Bengaluru and was demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom.
