Dharwad: The Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha has organised the 16th State level Farmers’ convention in Hubballi from April 25 to 27, said Sangha State President Maruti Manpade.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Manpade said all preparations were in place to hold the three-day meet wherein more than 4,000 farmers are expected to participate.
The various issues bothering the farmers today like loan waiver, employment guarantee scheme, irrigation facilities, parallel farm policy among others will be dealt with here.
National General Secretary of Akil Bharat Kisan Sabha Hanan Molla will inaugurate the convention on April 25 at 11 am preceded by a mega procession involving hundreds of farmers.
Former MLA G V Shriram Reddy, Nityanand Swamy, Secretary U Basavaraj among other leaders will take part, he said.
More than 400 representatives of the Sangha will take part in sessions held during the convention, wherein future course of action for farmers’ struggle will be decided, he said.
“Farmers’ suicide cases have increased after BJP government took over at the Centre. Neither the State nor the Centre have put any effort to prevent these suicides among farmers. Import of commercial crops has impacted crop prices. Successive governments have failed to get scientific prices for agricultural produce,” he charged.
Farmer leaders B S Soppin (KPRS), Corporator Rajanna Koravi, Mahesh Pattar (CITU) and others were present.
