Dharwad: Members of district unit of All India United Trade Union Centre (AITUC) took out a protest rally here on Saturday in response to the nationwide call given by Joint Committee of Trade Unions against demonetisation and Cashless schemes of the Centre.
The protest rally started from Kalabhavan, passed through Court Circle and reached DC office where a public meeting was held. The protesters raised slogans against the Centre raising questions as to what made Modi to implement cashless policies.
Addressing the protesters at DC office, AITUC state committee member M Shashidhar alleged that Modi government in its tirade against black money had inflicted demonetisation on the society thus pushing the poor and working class to the brink of no-money situation.
Crores of workers lost their jobs due to non-availability of required amount of cash with landlords and small industries. While common people are struggling to get new currency notes, on the other side, the illegal transaction of new notes was being done by some people without the fear of authorities, he lamented.
While commoners jostled to repay their loans with the fear of banks mortgaging their properties business people like Vijay Mallya went around scot-free, he said.
The cashless schemes like digitisation, Paytm among others only troubled people rather than helping them in their daily life. The working class and farmers must fight against the Centre to safeguard their jobs, he said.
District leaders Gangadhar Badiger, Asha Naik and Shanta Chauhan also spoke. A memorandum was submitted to the district administration on the occasion.
