Dharawad: Centre assures to make City State's cultural capital

Dharawad: Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal has said that the Union Ministry of Culture is ready to extend full co-operation and grants to make Dharawad, the home of art, literature, drama, painting, fine arts and music, thus the cultural capital of Karnataka.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the Regional Office Building of the Kendra Lalitha Kala Academy at the premises of Bharat Scouts and Guides near Dharawad Court Circle on the afternoon of Tuesday February 21.

He said various academy offices coming under the Union Ministry of Culture will be set up in Dharawad.

“Necessary funds will be provided for the Birth Centenary celebrations of Sawai Gandharva,” he said.

Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said steps would be taken to set up the Regional Office of the Sahitya Academy, the Office of the Central Centre for Cultural Research and the Office of the Kendra Nataka Academy in Dharawad.

“As per the proposal of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, an assistance of Rs. 5 Crore will be provided if a proposal is submitted to set up a museum on the silver dot of the freedom struggle Kittur Rani Chennamma and about Rs 1.5 Crore will be released for the performance of Veerarani Kittur Channamma at various Taluk places in Dharawad District,” he said.

Minister assured that necessary funds would be provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for the Development of Ramabai Dr. Ambedkar Hostel in Dharawad City and asked the officials to submit a proposal.
