Dharawad: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, in response to the Congress’ plans to call a convention on the Mahadayi issue said that Congress does not have the moral right to speak about the Mahadayi diversion project.
He said that the project began as a result of a letter he had written in ‘blood,’ and that a 5.5 km long canal was constructed while he served as the Minister of Water Resources. What did Congress do? he asked, lashing out at the party. Sonia Gandhi, the party’s leader, said during the Goa election campaign that not a drop of water would be diverted to neighbouring states. The canal was built during the BJP government had a wall was built during the Congress government. This shows how Congress has turned into a barrier to providing Mahadayi water to Karnataka.
In response to a question regarding the border dispute, Bommai said that several reports had been submitted before the reorganisation of states, and an Act was later finalised. This describes the present legal position. Maharashtra has challenged the State Reorganisation Act’s decisions, but the Supreme Court has not yet made a ruling.
