Dharawad: The last remnant of Mahadeva Textile Mill, which had survived on Karwar Road, was demolished in the wee hours of Wednesday January 25.
Built in 1865 by the Basel Mission Tilework, the chimney, which is more than 100 feet high, has now turned into mud. Established in 1865 by the British in the name of the Southern Maratha Spinning and Waving Company by the East India Company, the cotton from here was shipped by the British to Bombay, Gujarat and other foreign countries.
With the passage of time, it was known as Mahadeva Textile Mill now turned into Bharath Mill.
At present, around 16 acres of land has been purchased by private parties and the cleaning work is going on.
