Formation of alumni associations in govt schools stressed

Dharwad: Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KCPCR) Dr. Kripa Amar Alva has stressed on the need to form alumni association in government schools before July end, to strengthen the schools for imparting quality education.

Presiding over a meeting on “Strengthening Government Schools” held at DC office in Dharwad on Wednesday, Alva said government had formed various schemes to strengthen government schools in the state. School authorities must involve organisations, public and old students and take help from them to develop schools, he added.

The basic necessities of each school could be fulfilled, teaching aid could be purchased with help from philanthropists, which in turn will help in giving quality education, she said.

Officials of education department should offer honest service in maintaining “Shikshan Kashi” name of Dharwad district, she said. Saying that education is the only way to root out social menaces like child labour, child marriage among others, Alva said the Commission would recommend the government to appoint subject teachers in all schools compulsorily, besides for physical education and music.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. S B Bommanahalli assured the meeting to implement the advice given by the Commission.

DDPI N H Nagur informed the meeting that Dharwad district had a total of 763 and 108 government primary and high schools respectively out of which 2253 schools had toilets and there was a demand for building 2896 more for which a proposal had been submitted to government.

Commission member Roopla Nayak, ZP CEO Snehal R among other officials were present.
