Dharwad: Stressing the need to educate people on Yoga, Karnataka University Vice Chancellor Prof. Pramod Gai has said that the varsity would start MA in Yoga Studies from this academic year.
He said KU was the first university in South India to set up Yoga Research Centre in 1976 and to mark the international Yoga Day, the new course will be started this year.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark “International Yoga Day” in University campus, VC said, “In the ancient times, Yoga was confined to sages but now it is being practised across the world. To help the younger generation get knowledge on usefulness of Yoga, the KU has already started diploma and certificate courses. Now, to facilitate the students pursuing diploma in Yoga, MA course in Yoga Studies is being offered. Later on PhD will be offered,” he added.
To shed more light on the helpfulness of Yoga in treatment of diseases, new research will be taken up at DNA Centre in varsity campus in association with Anthropology department, he said.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Principal District & Sessions Judge Ramchandra Huddar said there was an ardent need for the legal fraternity to keep sometime to practise Yoga and develop concentration.
