Dharwad: The State Government Employees’ Federation (AKSGEF) has urged the government to formulate and implement the National Wage Policy.

Presiding over government employees’ meeting in Dharwad, President of the Federation Mahadevayya Mathapati said that the national wage policy was necessary to avoid disparities in pay scales for state and central government employees.

He said Karnataka government employees were getting lower salary when compared to their counterparts in other states. “While the prices of essential goods and services in the market are shooting up, the state employees are bearing the brunt of this. There is need to bring parity in basic pay, allowances and pension facilities, which will be possible only by introducing a national pay policy”, he added.

He urged the chief minister to announce interim relief of 30 percent to all the state government employees with retrospective effect from January 2017 in the wake of formation of sixth pay commission.

Federation Secretary Jaikumar who objected to the legislators getting their salaries and allowances hiked regularly without discussion, condemned their reluctance to extend facilities to the employees. He demanded that there should be a specific transfer policy and the government should adhere to it.
