Dharwad: The Dharwad High Court Bench Bar Association has expressed dissatisfaction over not getting representation for the advocates of this region, in the process of recruitment of judges.
At a discussion held on this issue at the Association’s meeting on Thursday, it was resolved to take a delegation to High Court chief justice and Supreme Court chief justice and submit a memorandum to them. “Around 32 posts of judges in the High Court are vacant, and a list for filling up nine posts is prepared now. It is learnt that all the nine persons are advocates practising at the High Court in Bengaluru. Advocates practising at the High Court Bench in Dharwad also have expertise, and they too should have been considered for the posts,” association President R D Desai opined.
The High Court Bench in Dharwad has been effectively functioning since last eight years. So far around 1.87 lakh cases have been disposed off, number per month being around 3,000. The number of cases being filed is also satisfactory.
For such effective work, the advocates here have also played an important role. Several persons practising in Bengaluru have become judges, while such an opportunity was not available for the advocates here, he said.
If there was no proper response to our memorandum, then launching of a struggle would be inevitable, he said adding that a meeting would be held on January 2 in this regard.
Several advocates who attended the meeting also expressed dissatisfaction for not getting representation for the advocates of this region, in the recruitment of judges.
