Dharwad: Santosh Lad, the Minister for Labour and District In-charge, has directed the district administration to conduct a thorough survey to identify ineligible beneficiaries among the list of 612 shelter homes constructed in Jagadish Nagar near Hubballi airport.

Today, at the Dharwad District Administration Hall, he addressed the concerns of both Jagadish Nagar and Girinichala residents, instructing officials to take action accordingly.

In 2004, the district administration and Ashraya Samiti built 612 houses on 16 acres of land in Jagdish Nagar. Out of these, 188 houses were acquired for airport expansion. After a joint survey by the municipal corporation and district administration, a list of 150 occupants residing in the houses was compiled.

Residents brought to the minister’s attention that 38 people were absent during the survey, resulting in their exclusion. In response, Minister Lad instructed Commissioner Dr. Eshwara Ullagaddi to conduct another survey to verify the eligibility of these 38 individuals and take appropriate measures. The remaining 424 beneficiaries were assessed in 2015 under the “My House, My Right” scheme.

The minister directed officials to conduct a re-survey of 166 beneficiaries based on the selection criteria, following doubts raised by residents of Jagdish Nagar. MLA Aravind Bellada mentioned that around the airport, 1248 shelter apartments are being constructed, and eligible beneficiaries will also be considered for allocation.

Addressing the concerns of Millanichala residents, the minister noted that there are 525 houses on 7.28 acres, with residents having resided there for 70 years. He assured that the issue will be resolved through consultation with the Municipal Commissioner to facilitate property registrations.

Furthermore, Minister Santosh Lad instructed Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde and MCC Commissioner to initiate steps for providing more space and basic amenities to the Government First Grade Degree College near the new bus stand. The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Swaroop T.K., AC Ashok Teli, and other officials.
