Dharwad: Hundreds of ITI students led by the members of All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) staged a protest at Vivekananda Circle in Dharwad demanding scraping of the “unscientific” semester system in ITI and fulfilment of their various other demands.

The students of various ITIs who gathered at the Circle raised slogans against the Education Department and demanded scraping of the semester system, earlier announcement of examination results, removal of negative markings in the exams, dropping of OMR system in exams, separate hostels for ITI students, among other demands.

Later, the students submitted a memorandum addressed to the commissioner and joint commissioner of the department of Employment and Training Commissioner.

Speaking on the occasion, AIDYO District Secretary Bhavanishankar S Gowda said that he had found many mistakes in the ITI results announced. Digitalisation of evaluation process is the main reason for the mistakes, he opined.

After semester system was adopted for the ITI course four years ago, the pass percentage of the students had come down drastically, he alleged.
