Dharwad: Symbiosis Law School, Pune bagged the S C Javali Memorial Trophy at the national moot court competition organised by the Karnataka University’s Sir Siddappa Kambali Law College in Dharwad on Sunday evening.
Sastra University School of Law, Tanjavooru, Tamil Nadu emerged as runners-up. Rishika M (School of Excellence in Law, Dr Ambedkar State Law University, Chennai) was declared as the best lady advocate while, Pranav V Shankar (School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore) was adjudged best gentleman advocate.
Alliance School of Law, Alliance University, Bangalore won the best memorial prize.
Speaking after handing over the prizes to the winning teams, Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Mohan Shantanagoudar said the legal education had to meet not only the requirements of the Bar and the new needs of trade, commerce and industry but also the requirements of globalisation. New subjects with international dimensions have come into legal education, he added.
In the changed scenario, the additional roles envisaged are that of policy planner, business advisor, negotiator among interest groups, expert in articulation and communication of ideas, mediator and law reformer among others, he added.
He also said moot court competitions provide an excellent opportunity for the law students to learn legal skills before they step into the profession. It trains them in the art of advocacy, an advocate has to be well versed in procedural as well as substantive law, he said.
Supreme Court advocate Sharad Javali, KU VC Pramod Gai, Co-ordinator M Vishwanath, Principal H H Uliveppa among others were present.
