Taking innovative farm technologies to the fields stressed

Dharwad: While highlighting ways and means to improve productivity in agriculture sector, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, P A Salimath has stressed on the need of transfer of innovative farm technology to the fields to make agriculture more beneficial.

Speaking after inaugurating the second PG Research Conference at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) Dharwad, Prof. Salimath emphasised the need for more research work to help farmers in their endeavours in agriculture sector.

He expressed concern over very small number of agriculture graduates going for higher studies and taking up research work.

He asked both teachers and students to be serious with regard to research work they were pursuing, which is helpful for farming sector.

Vice Chancellor of UAS, Dharwad, D P Biradar who presided over said the UAS had earmarked Rs 25 Lakh annually for the purpose of study abroad programme, through which the students get to visit other countries and get expertise in agricultural field.

Prof. Biradar who proposed to conduct PG Research conferences in all farm universities in the state said it would help prevent duplication of research works.

Prof. Biradar said that the post-graduate programmes in the field of Bio-Technology, Crop Physiology and Micro Biology would begin on the Vijaypura campus of the university.

A booklet on PG Research was released on the occasion.
