Dharwad: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi visited the family of Priyadarshini Patil, an NRI from Australia who tragically took her own life. He has also pledged to facilitate the return of Priyadarshini Lingaraj Patil’s children, who are currently under the care of the Australian government.

Priyadarshini and her spouse, Lingaraj Patil, had established their residence in Australia. The couple’s two children were born in Australia and obtained citizenship. Their son, Amartya, fell ill and had to be hospitalized in Australia for medical care.

However, as Amartya’s health worsened, Priyadarshini became embroiled in a legal struggle. The authorities have retained custody of their children for the past eight years, alleging inadequate guardianship. Priyadarshini returned to India and tragically ended her life at the Navilutheertha dam in the Belagavi district.

In response to this situation, every possible effort will be made to reunite Priyadarshini’s children with either their father or grandparents in Dharwad. Union Minister Joshi stated that the External Affairs Minister has been notified about this matter, and all relevant information has been conveyed via WhatsApp.

Such issues arise due to the complexities of foreign laws. Priyadarshini could have communicated this to her family, and her tragic act of self-harm could have been avoided. Joshi affirmed that they will consistently support Priyadarshini’s family.
