Bengaluru police apprehended a 56-year-old man from Belagavi for masquerading as a Lokayukta official and intimidating government personnel. The accused, Murgappa Ningappa Kumar, was a former constable who had been removed from duty several years ago. Authorities confirmed that he had engaged in similar fraudulent activities in the past, with multiple cases registered against him.

Fraudster’s intimidation tactics unravelled

Investigators discovered that Kumar repeatedly contacted government employees, pretending to be an officer from the Karnataka Lokayukta. He allegedly coerced them by threatening false disproportionate assets (DA) investigations. Reports indicate that he used these deceptive claims to extort money from his targets.

Victims’ complaints lead to arrest

His latest scam came to light after DySP Basavaraj R Magadam from the Lokayukta filed a formal complaint. Acting swiftly, the Vidhana Soudha police registered a new case and launched an inquiry into his operations.

Probe into financial misconduct underway

Authorities are currently scrutinizing Kumar’s financial dealings to assess the extent of his fraudulent earnings. Officials suspect he may have swindled several individuals over time. Further investigation is expected to uncover more victims and illicit transactions linked to his impersonation scheme.
