
Five Naxalites Arrested in Bijapur During Anti-Naxal Operation
On July 13, five Naxalites were apprehended in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, during a joint operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police, a police official reported. The arrests occurred in a forest near Metapal village under Gangaloor police station limits.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sai Mangu alias Mangu Kunjam (45), Mahesh Kursam (28), Lalu Potam (32), Phulli Punem (29), and Dhannu Punem (35). Mangu Kunjam, a notable figure, was the head of the ‘Janatana Sarkar’ (people’s government) squad of the outlawed Maoist movement and carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
The five arrested Naxalites were involved in various criminal activities, including attacks on police teams, murder, attempted murder, and triggering IED blasts, according to police reports.
The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat Naxalite activities in the region. The apprehension of these individuals marks a significant step in curbing the influence and operations of the Maoist movement in Chhattisgarh.
