Chikkodi : With torrential rains persisting in Maharashtra’s Krishna and tributary basins, a massive 32,100 cusecs of water is scheduled to be released from the Koyna Dam starting at 6 am on Thursday. The reservoir, with a storage capacity of 105 TMC feet, currently holds 101.78 TMC feet of water.

The increased rainfall in the Konkan region has prompted the decision to release water from the dam, raising concerns about potential flooding in the Krishna River basin. Subhash Sampagavi, Chikkodi sub-divisional officer, has urged people living along the riverbanks to remain vigilant.

Currently, 11,376 cusecs of water is flowing into the Krishna River near Kallola village, inundating over eight bridges in the sub-division. The additional release of water from the Koyna Dam heightens fears of further flooding affecting riverbank communities.
